Carpool Fee Adjustments
Based on the current price of gasoline, the NVHC Officers have notified the hike leaders to suggest to the volunteer carpool drivers to offer their passengers a 10% reduction to the suggested carpool fee on the NVHC Hiking Schedule.
Due to the volatility of gas prices we do not plan to adjust the rates in the schedule, either online or in print, for the foreseeable future. They will remain at the higher rates. The prices reflected on the schedule were established when gas was over $4/gallon.
We may adjust the reduction percent in the future as needed.

Potomac River Distance Tour
|
A |
The intention is to put some serious
distance on in one day. Whether this is one of the many “Potomac
Heritage Trails” is subject to interpretation, but we will leave the
Roosevelt Island parking lot at 7am, hike the ten miles +/- to the Cabin
John Bridge, turn around, and cover the ten miles back to the parking
lot (2x 10 =20 miles). The trail is rocky and not always easy, with some
waterfalls and historical spots, with very slight elevation gain (600’
on the round trip), but hey, when did you last walk twenty miles and not
have to fly/drive very far? Begin 2012 with good deeds. Bring a trash
bag, and pick up the most offensive bits along the way, and leave the
world a better place for 2012 (there will be opportunities to drop your
bag along the hike, so bring two!). This is not a trash pickup hike,
just a “do a good deed as we walk the Nation’s river” opportunity.
Emphasis is on twenty miles and the hike, not trash. Roosevelt Island
parking is first come/first served, accessible only from northbound GW
Parkway. Come early in case the lot is full, and you might find parking
in Rosslyn on a Sunday in January, and take the bike path bridge to the
parking lot.
